1999 women's volleyball team went 38-7, including an unblemished mark in the Tennessee Virginia Athletic Conference (TVAC), winning their third consecutive regular season and tournament titles. The Tornado didn't lose a match to region competition all season and later won the NAIA Region XII title, advancing to the NAIA National Volleyball Tournament for the first time in program history, which was held in Fresno, Calif. At the national tournament, King was selected to receive the National Tournament Sportsmanship Award, which was met with a resounding ovation from the Tornado fans.

Individually, head coach and King Athletic Hall of Fame member, Susie Toomey was selected TVAC and NAIA Region XII Coach of the Year. Shannan Riley garnered All-American Scholar Athlete honors and Andrea O'Dell earned All-America honorable mention accolades. O'Dell was also named Region XII Player of the Year while Riley and Robin Vadney earned All-Region honors. That trio, along with Jennifer Williams and Elizabeth Renfro, all earned All-TVAC accolades while Riley and Vadney were named TVAC Scholar Athletes. O'Dell was the TVAC Tournament MVP while Riley and Naomi Kittredge earned all-tournament team accolades. At the NAIA Region XII tournament, Riley earned MVP honors and Williams and Kendall Foltz joined her on the all-tournament team.
