The King women's basketball program has seen much success throughout its history. Of its many winning seasons, none have been more exciting than the 1988-89 season. In the season, they recorded only three losses, ended with a win, and clinched the NCCAA national championship with a win over Cedarville. With all of its accomplishments, the team will forever have a place in the King record books.

Many athletes from the 1988-89 basketball team made individual contributions to the record books as well. Jeannine Ward Morris is King's all-time single season scoring leader. In 1988-89 Morris ended the year with an impressive 624 points and an average of 21.5 points per game. She held the record for the highest number of career points of 1,697 until it was broken in 2005 by Rebekah Wilson. Morris also holds the record for number of field goals made per game, and is second on the list for number of free throws made in a single season, 122.

In the 1988-89 season, Tracy Dixon posted a 62.5 field goal percentage, the third highest for any King women's basketball player. Lana Penley holds the record for the best free throw percentage in a season. She shot 82.1 percent from the line in the 1989-90 season. She has the second highest number of assists, 208 and the third highest number of steals at 74. On King's career top five list, 19 record spots are held by teammates from the 1988-89 team. These former King student-athletes include Jeannine Ward Morris, Doris Roura, Sonya Hampton, Amanda Brewer and Laura Penley.

With all of these individual and team records, it is no wonder the 1988-89 team was so successful. Coached by Al Nida, this team started a tradition that earned them back-to-back-to-back NCCAA national championships.
