1987 men's soccer team had a spectacular season, posting an overall record of 16-4 and becoming one of two Tornado teams to qualify for the NAIA National Championship. The Tornado went 13-2 in the regular season, including a perfect 9-0 mark in District 24 play. King was ranked 20th in the nation and outscored opponents 87-25 during the year.

The Tornado won the NAIA District 24 championship and followed that with an NAIA Area 7 title, becoming one of 12 teams to qualify for the NAIA National Championship. While at the national championship, King fell to the second and seventh-ranked teams in the country, ending their magical season. Current King Hall of Fame member Lee Ramoon led the Tornado with 32 goals and 27 assists, earning him first team All-American honors. Head Coach Nathan Pifer was selected NAIA District 24 and Area 7 Coach of the Year honors.
