Tornado return to play at the ECAC Gamercon

BRISTOL, Tenn. – King University experienced limited competition last week due to spring break but make-up games in addition to regular league play has kept the squad busy this week. On top of this, Esports traveled to Albany, N.Y. this weekend to compete in the ECAC Gamercon for Rocket League and Madden.
 
FIFA
  • Austin Pantaleo competed in the NACE Starleague Spring Cup #2 last weekend but was unable to make the final day, finishing 3-3.
  • In ECAC play Pantaleo received a forfeit from Wilson College and faced Buena Vista University.
  • In game one he dominated the entire match, coming away with a 5-1 victory.
  • Buena Vista tried to slow the pace in game two but was unable to do so as King managed a 3-1 win to take the series 2-0.
  • Pantaleo moves to 4-3 in ECAC play.
MADDEN
  • Drayton Virgo met up with Muskingum University for the second time after suffering a 2-0 loss.
  • In this matchup Virgo managed to take the first game but was unable to secure the series due to the defense line pressure from Muskingum, falling 2-1.
  • After a long spring break Virgo returned to campus to compete against Clarke University.
  • In the first game Clarke managed a massive 38-14 win, led by a strong defensive showing.
  • However, Virgo decided to switch from the Arizona to Buffalo and saw a much better offensive performance.
  • Game two was decided by a field goal after Virgo landed a user hit stick to recover a fumble with 17 seconds left at his own 40-yard line.
  • A quick deep pass secured field goal range at the 25 yard line.
  • Virgo managed the clock like a pro to set up for a go-ahead field goal for the win to tie the series.
  • In game three Virgo unleashed as he switched from the air to the ground game.
  • This enabled him to protect the ball and control the clock much more easily.
  • He takes game three by score 24-10 with 100 percent pass completion and 150 rushing yards.
  • Virgo moves to 5-2 in ECAC league play.
  • In the ECAC Gamercon Virgo and Austin Mann fought for a spot in the final, four-man bracket, but a loss to the returning champ from Boise State ended their tournament run.
ROCKET LEAGUE
  • In ECAC play Rocket League A met up with Wayne State to take a close 3-2 win, moving to 8-0 in league play.
  • They also grabbed a 3-0 sweep over the University of Tennessee in NACE and another 3-0 against Temple University in the UGC.
  • Rocket League B played a streamed matchup with Husson University with the ECAC and came away with a 3-1 win.
  • In the ECAC Gamercon Sam Calini, Rory Johnsen and Andrew Wade were unable to make the semifinals, dropping matches to the University of Albany, Wayne State University and Florida Atlantic University.
VALORANT
  • Valorant Scarlet continued to find wins in the NECC as they moved to 6-0 in league play.
  • This week the scarlet squad faced Concordia University in a streamed matchup with the NECC.
  • In game one the map chosen was Split and King was on defense.
  • After winning the first seven rounds Concordia squeezed out a round win.
  • At the switch King was ahead by match score 10-2 moving onto offense.
  • Concordia mounted some momentum on defense, but King would take the first match 13-5.
  • Top frags were Wade at 18/9/4 and Andrew Ondrak with 17/6/8.
  • The next map chose was Bind and King was on attack.
  • In a similar fashion King went ahead 10-2 at the split and finished the match with a 13-2 win.
  • Top play of the game was Mann with a massive ace to secure the victory.
  • Top frags were Jarrett Joles at 23/9/7 and Mann at 15/9/4.

  • On Monday FIFA competes in the ECAC at 8:00 p.m., Rocket League competes in NACE at 6:0 p.m. and Valorant competes in the NECC.
  • On Wednesday Rocket League competes in the ECAC at 8:00 p.m.
  • On Thursday Madden will compete in the ECAC at 8:00 p.m.
