King Falls to Montevallo in Conference Championship Quarterfinals

The Tornado fell in Montevallo in the Conference Championship Quarterfinals in a close match-up.

Montevallo, Ala. – The King University Acrobatics & Tumbling team saw its postseason run come to an end Tuesday evening, falling to Montevallo 252.700 to 234.715 in the Conference Carolinas Championship Quarterfinals.

King opened the quarterfinal in the Compulsory event, scoring a 33.60. The Tornado posted an 8.85 in the Acro Heat, 9.35 in the Pyramid Heat, and an 8.70 in the Toss Heat before finishing with a 6.70 in the Tumbling Heat. Montevallo took an early advantage with a 36.65.

In the Acro event, King totaled 24.90 points. They earned a 7.00 in the 5-Element heat, followed by an 8.65 in the 6-Element heat and a 9.25 in the 7-Element heat. Montevallo extended its lead with a 28.25.

The Tornado found momentum in the Pyramid event, scoring a 27.70, which was only 1.80 difference from their start value. King posted a 9.30 in the Inversion heat, 8.65 in the Synchronized heat, and matched their highest mark of the meet with a 9.75 in the Open heat. Montevallo narrowly edged the event with a 28.45.

At the half, King trailed 93.35 to 86.20.

Out of the break, King scored a 24.75 in the Toss event, recording marks of 8.70 in the 450 Salto, 8.35 in the Synchronized heat, and 7.70 in the Open heat. Montevallo continued to build its lead with a 26.55.

In the Tumbling event, King totaled 47.725. Highlights included a 9.350 in the Aerial pass and an 8.875 in the Open pass. Montevallo again held the edge, scoring 49.150.
King entered the Team event looking to close the gap but finished with a 76.04, while Montevallo sealed the meet with an 83.65.

Montevallo led from start to finish, taking a 93.35 to 86.20 advantage into halftime before pulling away in the second half to secure the 252.700 to 234.715 victory.
