BRISTOL, Tenn. – King University Athletics Hall of Famer and Director of Esports,
Frank Morgan '12 has stepped down from his role to pursue a new opportunity outside of higher education.
"King has shaped the way I see the world and allowed me great personal growth, and for that I'll always be grateful for my time here," Morgan said.
Morgan has spent a total of 15 years at King between being a student-athlete, an assistant for the men's wrestling program, and spearing the Esports program.
During his time as a wrestler for the Tornado, he set the program's all-time record in wins and ranks in the top five in many statistical categories. Morgan went undefeated in all home dual matches over his career. He qualified for the NAIA National Championships twice and twice qualified for the NCAA Championships, becoming the first two-time all-American in program history. Morgan was inducted into the King Athletics Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 2024.
From 2014-2017, Morgan served as an assistant coach for the men's wrestling program before rejoining the Tornado in 2019 as the director of the Esports program. The program flourished under his leadership, winning multiple national titles including PlayVS East Rocket League Champions, three-time ECAC Rocket League Champions, University of Kentucky Boost Battle Champions, ECAC Rocket League LAN Champions, two-time winners of the NACE Open Call of Duty Championships, and PlayFly Call of Duty Championships.
Morgan formerly held three world records in Mario Kart and was ranked second "fastest" in America and ninth "fastest" in the World of Mario Kart.
"Frank is one of the best people to know in your lifetime," said long-time Assistant Athletic Director Dawn Regan. "He is brilliant, hardworking, and most of all loyal. I have been lucky enough to say I knew him since he was a student athlete on the men's wrestling team. Frank has stepped up so many times in athletics, being a wrestling assistant more than once, and then taking our Esports program to where it is now. He took the challenge and did an amazing job with this team. We will miss him, but I know he will always be part of King University Athletics. We wish him the very best in his next endeavor."
A national search is underway to fill the position of Director of Esports.
