Patriots outlast the Tornado

FAIRFAX, Va. – The King University men's volleyball team concluded their weekend series against George Mason on Saturday evening, falling to the Patriots in three sets.
 
THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: George Mason 3 – King 0 (19-25, 24-26, 14-25)
LOCATION: Recreation Athletic Complex; Fairfax, Va.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
  • The Tornado were down 8-4 before closing the gap with kills from Alex Barkley and JP Ribeiro.
  • Fermani Alessandro scored King's final points of the set with a service ace. He also had a total of 3 kills in the opening set.
  • Alex Barkley also had 3 kills.
Second Set
  • Throughout the entire set, King stayed within three points of the Patriots. They tied it a few times including when an attack error from George Mason tied the set a 24 to force extra points.
  • Fermani had another ace and Barkley had his first of the match as well.
  • Barkley had 5 kills up front while as a team, King totaled 3.5 blocks.
Third Set
  • The Tornado struggled to get rolling offensively in the third set, but Barkley recorded 4 kills and Fermani 3.
  • Javi Saldivar had 11 receptions and 3 digs on the back row.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Alex Barkley had a double-double with 12 kills and a perfect 14 receptions.
  • Javi Saldivar recorded 31 receptions and just one reception error for a 96.9 reception percentage.
  • JP Ribeiro tallied 25 of King's 31 assists. He also contributed 3 block assists.
  • Alessandro Fermani had 2 service aces and Barkley added another one.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Robert Evangelista led the offense with 15 kills.
  • Stef Kins had 18 receptions while Gio Collazo had 13.
  • Collazo had a game-high 5 aces and Georgi Zahariev had a game-high 28 assists.
 
UP NEXT
The King University men's volleyball team will be back in action next weekend as they travel to the University of Charleston on January 31 and February 1.
