Tornado shatter three records at season-opener

SALEM, Va. – It was a highly successful start to the Indoor Track and Field season for the King University track and field teams, as Lance Hatcher, Clathon Henfield, Skyler Miller, Matthew Henfield and Ermay Vazquez Adame all broke school records to lead the Tornado at the season-opening Bast-Cregger Invitational.

HOW IT HAPPENED - MEN
  • Hatcher not only won the 1000 meters, but he set a school record in the process, crossing the line in 2:38.29, breaking the NCAA-era record, which was 2:43.94, set in 2019.
  • Henfield finished second in the 300 meters, crossing the line in 35.82 seconds. Miller was 10th with a time of 38.33 seconds, with Matthew Henfield crossing the tape in 38.42 seconds. All three times broke the school record time of 38.49 seconds that was set in 2019.
  • In the 5000 meters, Jordan Keith won, coming in with a time of 15:27.38, with Josh Booher finishing second with a personal record time of 15:41.83.
  • Zach Stroin also came up with a personal record, finishing the 60 meters in 7.40 seconds. He also set a PR in the 200 meters, finishing in 24.06 seconds. C. Henfield finished eighth, with a time of 23:00 seconds
  • Keith also had a second-place finish in the 3,000 meters, finishing in 8:48.15 to set a personal record. Mason Sanders and Booher also had personal records, with Sanders taking sixth with a PR time of 9:08.95, with Booher taking seventh with a time of 9:09.6.
  • C. Henfield took second in the long jump, with a mark of 6.79 meters
HOW IT HAPPENED - WOMEN
  • Vazquez Adame broke the all-time school record in the 1000 meters, finishing in 3:08.80, smashing the previous record, which was 3:18.25, set during the 2019 season, Mandy Lowery placed third in the event, with a time of 3:24.71.
  • Vazquez Adame also took second in the 800 meters, crossing in 2:26.08 while Lowery was eighth with a time of 2:39.97.
  • Emily Ward finished sixth in the mile, with a time of 5:50.07, with Lauren Sedberry clocking a time of 6:25.75.
  • Ruthie Fripp and Annah Blankenship both set personal records in the weight throw, with Fripp marking 13.94 meters to place fifth, with Blankenship marking 12.58 meters, taking seventh.
  • Samantha Jerrell was 10th in the long jump, marking 4.66 meters.
UP NEXT
  •  The Tornado will be off until Jan. 20, when they compete at the VMI Winter Challenge.
