Warren Davis had a career night on Thursday, as he posted 15 kills and 12 digs to lead the King University men's volleyball team to a 3-1 win over Quincy in the 2023 home opener for the Tornado.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
- It was tight early, as neither team was able to establish a very large lead.
- The largest lead was two points, which the Hawks took at multiple points.
- King took their first lead of the set at 15-14 off a kill by Davis, with AJ Drooker getting the set assist.
- After a timeout, King extended the lead to 16-14 off a Jackson Carroll kill before a service error gave Quincy a point.
- The Tornado would eventually take a 19-18 lead, but Quincy would end the set on a 8-2 run to win 25-21.
Second Set
- The Hawks again took an early lead, but were unable to build it very large.
- After a Quincy attack error tied the set at nine, Kellan Kennedy recorded a kill to give King a 10-9 advantage.
- That kickstarted a 6-2 Tornado run that saw them take a 15-11 lead into a timeout.
- Coming out of the break, Quincy scored the first two points, getting to within 15-13 before an attack error gave King a point.
- After King's lead reached 19-16, the Hawks came storming back, bringing the score to 20-19.
- A run of three straight King points gave them a 23-19 lead, forcing Quincy to call timeout.
- King would take the final two points of the set, with Kennedy and Carroll picking up the final block to win the set, 25-19.
Third Set
- Quincy again took an early lead, holding onto it until back-to-back service aces by Justin Sawyer capped off a stretch of four consecutive Tornado points, putting the Tornado ahead 15-14.
- The teams went back-and-forth, with both teams holding narrow leads.
- After Carroll picked up a kill and a service ace to put King up 24-23, the Hawks were able to score a point before King went to set point, up 25-24 after a kill from Milstead.
- Kennedy had a kill to put King up 26-25, with Drooker ending the set with a service ace, winning the set 27-25.
Fourth Set
- Davis got the Tornado started with a kill, before the Hawks tied the match and took an early lead.
- The teams would consistently trade the lead throughout the set, with the Hawks eventually going ahead 21-19.
- After a timeout called by the Tornado, Quincy committed back-to-back attack errors to hand King a 22-21 lead.
- Davis recorded another kill, putting King ahead 23-21.
- A Quincy kill and subsequent service error gave the Tornado match point, up 24-22.
- The match came to a thunderous end on a kill courtesy of Drooker, winning the set 25-22 and the match 3-1.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Davis finished with 15 kills and 12 digs, both of which not only led the Tornado, but are new career-highs.
- Carroll finished with 15 kills as well, along with 11 digs.
- Drooker handed out a career-best 43 assists, while also getting three kills and six digs.
FOR THE FOES
- Raje Alleyne led the Hawks with 17 kills, with Keegan Carey adding 11.
- Dominik Wagiel had 13 digs.
- Jonas Holzinger recorded 46 of the 49 set assists for Quincy.
