Guittard, Moore selected Conference Carolinas Scholar-Athletes of the Year presented by Hudl

BRISTOL, Tenn. – Following the spring season, King University student-athletes were named Conference Carolinas Scholar-Athletes of the Year, presented by Hudl. Claire Guittard earned the distinction for acrobatics & tumbling and Drew Moore earned the award for baseball.

Guittard was selected first team All-Conference Carolinas and earned All-America honors from the National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association (NCATA) this season. She becomes the first Tornado to be selected Conference Carolinas Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She graduated with a degree in accounting and economics with a 3.83 GPA.

The senior competed in 14 heats for the Tornado, helping King to a program record score of 9.90 in the compulsory pyramid. She also helped the Tornado to 11 heat scores above 9.00, including seven above 9.50. The Connelly Springs, N.C. native has been invaluable to the Tornado over the last four years as she has competed as a base, back base and tumbling. She helped King to an 8-2 record, going 7-1 in Conference Carolinas play.

Moore becomes the first Tornado baseball player to be selected Conference Carolinas Scholar-Athlete of the Year as he graduated with a degree in business with a 3.83 GPA. He was selected second team All-Conference Carolinas following another spectacular season on the mound.

The senior ranked among the league leaders in numerous pitching categories. His 3.65 ERA ranked fifth in the league while ranking fourth in opponent batting average at .237. In 69.0 innings pitched Moore struck out 69 batters, ranking him 10th in the league. He finished 8-3 on the season, ranking him second in the league in wins. He owns victories over Belmont Abbey College, University of Mount Olive and Barton College.

In the Conference Carolinas Baseball Championship, he tossed seven innings as King defeated Francis Marion University in the opening round. Moore posted two games with at least 10 strikeouts, punching out 10 against Belmont Abbey and 11 in a win over Chowan.

The Scholar-Athlete awards Presented by Hudl are awarded annually to one individual in each Conference Carolinas sponsored sport. The Scholar-Athlete of the Year winners are chosen by the Conference Carolinas Student-Athlete Affairs Committee.

To be considered, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.25 or higher. In addition, the nominees for the award must have been named all-conference in their sport and also chosen academic all-conference.
