BRISTOL, Tenn. – Two King University student-athletes had big weeks last week and were selected Conference Carolinas Player of the Week in their respective sports.
Claire Guittard won the award in acrobatics & tumbling and
Christian Small earned honors for men's wrestling.
Guittard did everything from base to tumble for the 10th-ranked Tornado in their win at Chowan University. She excelled in the pyramid and toss events as the Tornado scored 9.55 out of 10.00, 9.40 out of 9.80 and 9.85 out of 10.00 for a pyramid total of 28.80, the highest for the Tornado this season. She followed that by helping toss heats 2 and 3 to excellent scores. She was a base as the Tornado were nearly perfect in heat 3, scoring 9.30 out of 9.40.
Small, who is ranked sixth in the nation, went 3-0 on the week, with all his wins coming over South Atlantic Conference Carolinas opponents. He started the week with a 6-4 decision over Omar Armengol of Coker University before pinning Belmont Abbey College's Will Cline in 2:19 and winning a 9-5 decision over Chance Cottingham of UNC Pembroke on Thursday. For the season, Small is 28-2, with 10 wins coming via pin.
