Four Tornado earn Conference Carolinas Weekly Awards

BRISTOL, Tenn. – Four King University student-athletes had standout week's last week, earning accolades from Conference Carolinas. Drew Moore and Austin Meyer earn the Conference Carolinas Baseball Pitcher and Player of the Week awards while Meghan O'Ferral earned the Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week award and acrobatics & tumbling's Catherine Reynolds was selected Acrobatics & Tumbling Athlete of the Week.

In his lone start of the week, Moore was nothing short of spectacular for the Tornado. He posted his first complete game of the season as he defeated Chowan University in game on Friday morning. Moore tossed all seven innings, allowing only five hits and recording 10 strikeouts. He only faced five batters over the minimum for his second straight win. The 10 strikeouts set a career-high, and the complete game was the third of his career. His previous career-high of seven strikeouts came in 2019.

This marks the first time in Moore's career he has been selected Conference Carolinas Pitcher of the Week.

Meyer had a big weekend for the Tornado offense, leading King to a sweep of Chowan. On the weekend, Meyer hit .571 with eight hits, including one double while scoring five runs and driving in five. In Friday's doubleheader sweep, Meyer went 3-for-4 and drove in two in game one before going 2-for-3 and driving in two more in the nightcap.

This marks the first Conference Carolinas Player of the Week honor for Meyer in his career.

O'Ferral helped the Tornado to their first win of the season, and head coach Paul Shaw's first career win on Sunday. She scored her second goal of the season, coming in the 86th minute to give King a 1-0 win over Converse College. O'Ferral took a pass from Megan Brody on the right side, and beat the keeper to the back post, giving King the win. The game-winning goal was O'Ferral's first career game-winner.

This marks the first time in her career that O'Ferral has been selected Conference Carolinas Offensive Player of the Week.

Reynolds led King to their third straight win, topping Belmont Abbey College 265.590-255.935 on Thursday night. In the meet, Reynolds competed in 10 heats including the team event. She broke her own program-high in the tumbling open pass, scoring 9.900, which topped her previous mark of 9.875. Reynolds also helped King set season-high scores in compulsory toss, acro heat 1 and toss heat one. She also contributed to a tumbling even score of 53.750, which was the second-highest score in program history.

This marks the first time this season Reynolds has been selected Conference Carolinas Athlete of the Week.

The King acrobatics & tumbling team is scheduled to host Belmont Abbey on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. while the women's soccer team is in action again on Monday against Belmont Abbey at 4:30 p.m. The Tornado baseball team travels to Barton College on Saturday and Sunday.
