Tornado capture first ECAC esports title

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University esports Rocket League team won the first Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) championship in program history. The Tornado went 6-2 in the regular season, earning the ninth seed of more than 150 teams. In the playoffs, King won all four matches to take their first title.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • King defeated Ball State and the College of Staten Island 3-0 in each of their first two matches following a first round by.
  • In the quarterfinals, the Tornado earned a 3-1 win over top seed and undefeated Bay State College.
  • King then took on fourth-seeded Boise State in the semifinals, earning another 3-1 victory.
  • The Tornado trio of Matthew Bilbruck, Sam Calini and Rory Johnsen trailed Wayne State College 2-1 in the best-of-seven grand final.
  • However, the Tornado came storming back with three straight wins to take the title 4-2 for the first ECAC title in program history.
NEXT SEMESTER IN ESPORTS
  • King will compete in the ECAC and National Esports Collegiate Conference (NECC) in the spring semester.
  • In those leagues, King will compete FIFA, Madden, Rainbow 6, Rocket League and Valorant.
