BRISTOL, Tenn. – Despite all the snow, the King University acrobatics and tumbling team took on Baylor University. The Bears started the meet strong and didn't let up, whereas the Tornado struggled at points throughout the meet as Baylor topped King 276.595-250.795.
Baylor (3-0) posted a score of 38.00 in the compulsories while King (0-2) started with a compulsory score of 33.10. In toss heat of the compulsories, the groups of Courtney Harris, Maya Fuller, Angela Powers, Kali Story-Smith, Mariah Steffey and Tosha Banks, Emily Powers, Cassidy Davis, Deanna Coleman, Haley Venable and Lauren Wright set a program best with a score of 9.80.
In the acro event, King posted a program best in heat two and matched a program best in heat three. The Tornado group of Stephanie Rhea, Kara Christian, Coleman and Banks, Emily Powers, Angela Powers and Davis scored 9.80 in heat two, and Banks, Emily Powers, Angela Powers, Coleman, Courtney Poister Landers, Steffey and Davis posted a heat three score of 9.35. King posted a program best total of 28.60 in the acro event while Baylor scored 29.20.
The Tornado matched another program best with a score of 9.55 in heat one of the pyramid event. However, King finished the event with a total of 9.55 while the Bears scored 29.30 to extend their lead to 124.25-116.70 at halftime.
Out of the break, King set another program best with a score of 9.30 in toss heat one. The Tornado followed that with a season best score of 8.60 in heat three to end the toss event with a score of 26.45. However, Baylor extended their lead with a score of 27.75 in the event.
In the tumbling event, Harris set a season best with a score of 8.425 points for the Tornado. Nevertheless, Baylor extended their lead with a score of 55.625 while King scored 45.625 in the tumbling event. In the team event, the Tornado scored 88.47 points while Baylor scored 96.72, making the final 276.595-250.795 in favor of Baylor.
King will be in action again March 8 when they travel to Adrian, Michigan to take on Adrian College and Concordia University of Wisconsin at 12:00 p.m.
