Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The King University Outdoor Track and Field team opened the first day of the Conference Carolina Outdoor Track and Field Championship this afternoon with strong marks and times by the group. The most outstanding mark was
Nolen Carter's Shot Put throw during the Decathlon with a throw of 11.58 meters (38' 00" ft).

Men's Track and Field:

The men were led by Carter, who set a new meet record in the Decathlon Shot Put, and also competed in four other events during his Decathlon. Carter is currently sitting in sixth place after the first day of competition at 3080 points. His teammate
Emanuel Rodriguez Ronda is currently sitting in tenth place with 2173 points.

The duo of
Dominick Stevens and
Lynden Johnson both competed in the 200-meter dash prelims, with both of them qualifying for the finals. Stevens was able to win his heat to get the automatic qualifier with a time of 21.29 seconds, while Johnson got in with his time of 21.60. Stevens is ranked in second place going into the finals, and Johnson is in sixth place.

Noah Gilliam was the first athlete today for King to score points, placing eighth place in the Hammer Throw with a new personal best of 47.44 meters (155' 07" ft).
Jesse Owens and
Brayden Self both also competed in the Hammer Throw, throwing marks of 43.19 meters (141' 08" ft) and 39.57 meters (129' 10" ft) respectively.

Evan Deichert competed in the 10,000-meter run, finishing with a time of 35:46.86.

In the Heptathlon,
Savannah Darnell is currently using her consistency to help excel, currently sitting in third place with 2733 points, just 25 points behind second place.

Emily Ward was able to put King on the board as a team with a time of 41:01.99 in the 10,000-meter run, finishing sixth place, scoring three points for King.

Rylee Durrence competed in the Hammer Throw for the Tornado with a personal best with a throw of 39.66 meters (130' 01" ft), finishing in tenth place.

Up Next: The Tornado will continue into Day Two tomorrow morning at 11:00 am with the women's Heptathlon and Women's Pole Vault, while the track events will start at 2:00 pm.
