Nashville, Tenn. – The King University team finishes the first day of the split competition weekend. Some of the top-ranked athletes are heading to Music City to face off against some of the fastest athletes in the country at all levels of the NCAA. As well as sending athletes to the Tyron Mid-Winter Challenge to break personal records and try to qualify for conference championships.
Men's Track and Field Team:
The Men's Track and Field team finished the first day of a split weekend competition. At Music City, they had
Dominick Stevens and Lynden Johson both do what they have done all season. Spring with the best of them.
Stevens is racing in both the 200-meter and 60-meter. He advanced to the semifinals in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.84 seconds, placing eighth. He then raced the 200-meter dash with a top-five time in the conference so far this season of 21.81. This time was good enough to earn him an 11
th place overall.
Johnson focused on the 60-meter dash today, which was his only race. In the first round, he finished in a time of 6.85, also qualifying for the semi-finals with a ninth-place finish.
At the Tyron Mid-Winter Challenge,
Braydon Muhly saw action in the 5000-meter run. He was able to finish in a time of 16:19.60, good for 15
th place overall and seventh place in his heat. With multiple Conference Carolina opponents finishing close to him, it is shaping up to be an exciting conference championship race to come soon.
Jesse Owens was able to lead the way for the Tornado on the field side of things with a mark of 12.96 meters (42'6.25" ft). That mark was good for 28
th place in a deep field with over 50 athletes.
Women's Track and Field Team:
The Women's Track and Field team, like the men, split up the team into two locations. Sending Ermay Vazquez to Music City. She was running the 600-meter dash, going for the school record. She was able to run a time of 1:42.33, just 2 seconds off the school record. She finished 28
th overall in the field and eighth in her heat.
At the Tyron Mid-Winter Invitational, where
Savannah Darnell led the women in High Jump, finishing seventh overall, leaping a mark of 1.60 meters (5'3" ft).
Keeyanah Foote was able to show up big in the triple jump, clearing a mark of 9.99 meters (32'9.50" ft), finishing 17
th overall.
