BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University men's volleyball team fell to Cumberland in three sets after the Phoenix mounted a comeback to win set three.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Cumberland took an early 3-0 lead in the first set. King trailed for the entirety of the set as the Phoenix won the opening set 25-17.
- Alex Barkley had three of King's six kills in the first set.
- The Phoenix once against got the first points of the set and led the whole of the second set.
- King scored four in a row to come within three points. That run included a kill from Grayson Stoudt and an ace from Bryce Pickett.
- Both Dalton Claiborne and Stoudt had 3 kills during the second set. Both Claiborne and Pickett each had a service ace.
- The opening points of the third set was back and forth. King had a 5-0 run to take a 8-4 lead.
- The Tornado extended their lead to a six-point lead for the first time with a kill from Pickett to make it 14-8. King would continue to have a few other times where they were up by six, but Cumberland mounted a comeback and tied the set at 21.
- Both teams traded a few points, but the Phoenix took the 26-24 extra point set three victory and the set.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Colton Bueter had a team-high 7 kills and a team-high nine digs. He also had a match-high 22 receptions.
- Dalton Clairborne had two service aces while Bryce Pickett added one of his own.
- JP Ribeiro had 23 of the 29 Tornado assists. He also had 1.5 blocks on the front line, including the only solo block of the game.

The men's volleyball team will be back in action tomorrow as they take on Conference Carolinas rival Lees-McRae at 2 p.m. from the Student Center Complex.
