CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The #2 ranked King University women's wrestling team won both of their duals on the first day of the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) National Duals. The Tornado advanced to the semifinals, and will wrestle Saturday morning.

HOW IT HAPPENED - #14 Lock Haven
- #5 Avery Kibelbek got the Tornado started at 103 pounds, pinning her opponent in 1:14 to put King in front, 5-0.
- The Tornado won the next seven bouts, including pins by #5 Clare Booe, #2 Montana DeLawder, Annabel Garcia and #1 Chey Bowman, taking a 37-1 lead.
- Lock Haven took the final two bouts via forfeit, but were unable to close the deficit, as King held on for the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED - #6 Colorado Mesa
- At 103 pounds, #9 Mia Zuniga won a 11-0 tech fall before #3 Samara Chavez pinned no. 7 Sophia Cornish in 51 seconds to put King in front, 9-0.
- After a win by pin from #6 Melanie Mendoza and a tech fall win by DeLawder, the Mavericks won via pin at 131 pounds, cutting the lead to 18-5.
- The Tornado took the next three matches, with Garcia and Drury each winning via pin, with Bowman winning a tech fall over #3 Gretchen Donally at 160 pounds.
- The Tornado conceded the final two bouts via forfeit, but still won the dual.
UP NEXT
- The Tornado will wrestle in the semifinals of the National Duals on Saturday, taking on #3 North Central at 10:30 a.m. A win puts the Tornado in the championship against either #1 Iowa or #5 McKendree.
