Coralville, Iowa, The King University Women's Wrestling team started the first day of the 2026 NCAA National Championship. With four wrestlers competing, all four are advancing to the second day of nationals, with all of them guaranteed All-Americans.
Avery Kibelbek started off the day at 110 pounds with the fourth bout of the day. She lost in a narrow 5-3 decision. Kibelbek bounced back in the second round, finding a way to take over the tournament with a tech fall in 4:46, 11-0. She then advanced to the third, winning by tech fall again, 14-3 in 2:09. The fourth round was a forfeit, sending her into the automatic All-American.
Virginia Foard, with a statement victory, won the first round by pin in just 40 seconds. She then fell in the second round with a close bout, falling behind in the second period, losing 8-5 by decision. Focusing back up into the third bout with a tech fall 10-0 in 3:00.
Ruby Julien-Newsom had a rough start, losing the first match at 138 pounds by pin in 24 seconds. After a grueling loss, she fought her way through the consolation bracket, winning the second round 8-7 by decision. She then went into round three and won by pin in 4:30. In her final bout of the day, she won in a 10-10 tie by her four-point takedown.
Stella Steigler, with a stamp on the day with two victories, kept her in the hunt for the national champion. She won the first bout of the day 11-4 by decision, only allowing one score of four points in the first minute of the match, scoring 11 unanswered. In the second bout, she fought hard to earn a decisive victory of 10-0 for the tech fall in 4:45.
