Foard earns Freshman of the Year from The Open Mat

BRISTOL, Tenn. – Virginia Foard of the King University women's wrestling team was named The Open Mat NCAA Women's Freshman of the Year Monday afternoon.

Foard, a freshman from Reva, Va., went 27-4 in her first year at King, with 18 tech falls and four wins via pin.

At the East Stroudsburg Open, Foard defeated All-Americans Mia Macaluso of East Stroudsburg and Montana DeLawder on her way to the title. At the NCWWC National Championships in March, the fourth-seeded Foard teched her way to the national finals, which included a 10-0 win over returning All-American Alexandra Fitzgerald of Sacred Heart before avenging a loss to  Shelby Moore of McKendree. Foard fell 3-1 to Amani Jones of North Central in the national finals.
