Tornado place five on CSC Academic All-District team

BRISTOL, Tenn. – Five King University athletes have been named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District teams, led by Warren Davis, Jack Sarnowski and AJ Drooker from men's volleyball, Franky Medina from men's wrestling and Ellie Pittman from women's golf.

Davis, a junior from Mansfield, Texas, established himself as one of the top players in Conference Carolinas this season, being named All-Conference Carolinas first team, while also being named the Conference Carolinas tournament MVP. Davis was fourth in the conference with 8.19 attacks per set, and was third with 3.78 kills per set.

Sarnowski, a senior from Winter Springs, Fla., handed out 10.02 assists per set this season, third-most in the conference and 13th-best in NCAA Division I.  On Jan. XX against Fort Valley State, he handed out a career-high 64 assists. Against no. 9 Ohio State, he had 31 assists. He was also named to the All-Conference Carolinas tournament team.

Drooker, a junior from Chesterfield, Va., averaged 1.34 kills and 1.61 assists per set, while being second on the team with 19 service assists. He handed out a career-high 54 assists against Tusculum on Jan. 24, just days after recording a career-high 14 digs against Limestone.

Medina, a junior from Murfreesboro, Tenn., went 20-12 this season for the Tornado, placing fourth at the Super Region II championships. He had nine bonus point wins, six of which were tech falls, with three wins via fall. He was named an NWCA Scholar All-American for the second consecutive season, and was also named Academic All-Conference Carolinas.

Pittman, a sophomore from Newland, N.C., competed in 20 rounds for the Tornado, with a season-best 16th place finish at the Patsy Rendleman Invitational. She finished tied for 37th at the Conference Carolinas championship, carding rounds of 85-79-91. In two years at King, Pitman has a stroke average of 87.9, with a career-low round of 77 coming in the first round of the Patsy Rendleman Invitational.

Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced June 21 (men) and June 22 (women). 
 
The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022-23 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. The NAIA CSC Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA national office.
