DUE WEST, S.C. – The King University men's volleyball team fell to Erskine College in five sets Friday afternoon, despite
Warren Davis posting 23 kills, while
Jackson Carroll and
Kellan Kennedy had 13 kills and 12 kills each.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
- Erskine scored the first four points, before a pair of Flying Fleet errors brought King to within 4-2.
- After another Erskine point, King would score three in a row, with Kennedy recording a kill and a service ace to tie the score at five.
- King would take an 8-7 lead on a combined block by Sean Haberthy and Jack Sarnowski, eventually going ahead 12-11.
- Erskine would then score three points in a row to go ahead 14-12.
- The lead would trade hands throughout the remainder of the set, with King taking a 23-22 lead after an AJ Drooker service ace before the Flying Fleet scored the final three points to win 25-23.
Second Set
- The Tornado scored the first three points, with Sarnowski picking up a pair of service aces.
- After the lead reached 5-2, the Flying Fleet scored three in a row to tie the score, before King took a 9-7 lead on kills by Sarnowski and Carroll.
- Erskine then scored five points in a row, opening up a 12-9 lead.
- The lead would reach 24-19 in favor of Erskine, before the Tornado used kills from Davis and Kennedy to go on a 6-0 scoring run. Taking a 25-24 lead.
- The score was tied at 29 when Davis had back-to-back kills to end the set, with King taking the 31-29 win.
Third Set
- The Flying Fleet took an early 9-3 lead, eventually stretching it to 10-4.
- The Tornado would start to come back, pulling to within 11-8 after consecutive Davis kills.
- King was able to pull to within 19-18 late in the set, but Erskine scored three points in a row, taking a 22-18 lead.
- They would go on to score three of the final five points, taking the set 25-20.
Fourth Set
- After the Flying Fleet took an early 4-1 lead, the Tornado pulled to within 5-3 before scoring three in a row to take a 6-5 lead.
- King would eventually take a 10-8 lead before Erskine scored three in a row to go ahead 11-10.
- The Tornado then went on a scoring run of their own, scoring four consecutive to take a 14-11 advantage.
- The lead would go on to reach 23-20, before a couple of Erskine points allowed them to pull to within 23-22.
- An attack error by Erskine gave King set point, up 24-22. After a King service error, Carroll closed the set with a kill, winning a 25-23 set.
Fifth Set
- Erskine again took an early lead, this one 4-1 before the Tornado came storming back to tie the set at six.
- King would take a 11-10 lead, eventually going up 12-11 before a pair of Erskine points gave them a 13-12 advantage.
- A kill from Kennedy and a Erskine attack error gave King match point, 14-13 but the Flying Fleet would score the final three points to win 16-14, taking the match 3-2.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The 23 kills from Davis is the second-most he has posted in a match in his career, and marks the sixth consecutive match he has posted double-digit kills.
- Sarnowski had 49 set assists, the third time in the last four matches he has had 40+ assists.
FOR THE FOES
- Austin Edgerrin has 23 kills for Erskine, along with a pair of aces and a team-high 12 digs.
- Aidon Love had 12 kills, while Jason Sall added 11.
- Francisco Pomar had 51 assists.
UP NEXT
- The Tornado will be back at home next weekend, hosting Barton College Friday night at 7 p.m.
- Erskine will host Lees-McRae College Saturday afternoon.
