BRISTOL, Tenn. – In the latest set of National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) rankings, the King University women's wrestling team is ranked second, two points behind North Central College. The Tornado have 14 individuals ranked including three that are ranked No. 1. However, the Tornado are still atop the dual meet poll.
In the tournament poll, King amassed 109 points, to stay second behind North Central's 111 points. King has 14 ranked individuals while North Central has 15 as those are the only two programs with at least 10 ranked individuals.
In the dual rankings, King stayed ahead of North Central as the Tornado finished with a perfect 6-0 dual record on the season.
Jessica Corredor (101 pounds),
Sage Mortimer (109 pounds) and
Ashlynn Ortega (143 pounds) all stay ranked at the top spot of their respective weight classes.
Corredor owns a 15-2 record with six technical falls and three pins. She is also 3-1 against ranked opponents. Mortimer is 25-2 on the season with 14 wins by technical fall and five via pin. She is also 5-2 against ranked opponents. Ortega took the mat for the first time last month and is 8-0 with five technical fall wins and two via pin.
Along with Corredor at 101 pounds,
Avery Kibelbek is ranked sixth in the latest rankings. Kibelbek is 19-2 on the year, taking six technical fall wins and three by pin.
Along with Mortimer at 109 pounds,
Dianna Holmes is ranked third. She is is 21-4 on the year, earning 12 technical fall wins and two by pin.
At 116 pounds,
Samara Chavez is ranked third and she is followed by
Danielle Garcia who is ranked fourth. Chavez owns a 20-2 mark this season, going 4-2 against ranked opponents. She has taken seven technical fall wins and nine victories by pin. Garcia is 17-3 with five technical fall wins and 10 wins via pin.
At 123 pounds,
Vayle-Rae Baker is ranked fourth while
Melanie Mendoza held steady at seventh. Baker is now 23-2 on the season with 12 technical falls. Mendoza is 23-9 on the season with 14 pins and five technical fall victories.
Montana DeLawder stayed at second at 130 pounds. DeLawder owns a 24-5 record on the season with 17 pins and five wins by technical fall.
Ana Luciano moved to 136 pounds and is ranked second while
Viktorya Torres stayed in fourth. Luciano is 18-1 on the season with 11 technical fall wins and five pins. Torres is 21-3 on the season. She has taken nine wins by pin and eight by technical fall and was selected NCWA National Wrestler of the Month in January.
At 155 pounds,
Tiffani Baublitz is ranked sixth while
Chey Bowman is ranked second at 170 pounds. Baublitz is 20-4 on the season with 10 pins. Bowman is 23-0 on the season, going 4-0 against ranked foes. She has taken eight wins by pin and nine by technical fall.
King returns to action at the National Collegiate Women's Wresting Coalition (NCWWC) Region 2 Championships that will be hosted in the Student Center Complex. The regional is scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m.
