BRISTOL, Tenn. – In the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Coaches' Poll, the King University women's wrestling team continues to be ranked third with 12 ranked individuals.
Samara Chavez leads the ranked individuals as she is ranked atop at 116 pounds.
King is one of four teams to have at least 10 individuals ranked, trailing only the University of Iowa (14) and North Central College (15). Iowa continues to hold the top spot in the team rankings, while North Central comes in at second ahead of the Tornado.
Chavez continues to be the top-ranked wrestler at 116 pounds, going 4-0 on the season with two pins and one technical fall.
The Tornado tandem of
Jessica Corredor and
Mia Zuniga are ranked fifth and sixth at 101 pounds, respectively. Corredor is 4-0, all coming by technical fall while Zuniga is 5-1 with three wins by pin.
At 109 pounds,
Danielle Garcia moves up to third as she is 4-0 on the season with two pins and two wins by technical fall.
Along with Chavez at 116 pounds,
Melanie Mendoza is ranked fifth with a 7-1 record and five wins by technical fall and two more via pin.
Montana DeLawder and
Virginia Foard are ranked third and fourth at 123 pounds, respectively. DeLawder is 7-1 with three wins by pin and three by technical fall while Foard owns an 8-1 mark with five technical fall wins and one pin.
Victoria Baez-Dilone is ranked third at 130 pounds with a 4-0 record and includes three technical fall wins and one pin.
At 136 pounds,
Claire DiCugno, the NWCA Region 2 Wrestler of the Month, is ranked fourth with an 8-0 record, taking five wins by technical fall and three by pin.
Chey Bowman is ranked third at 155 pounds with a 4-0 record. She owns two technical fall wins and two pins.
At 170 pounds,
Tiffani Baublitz is 4-0 with three technical fall wins and one pin, moving up to second in the rankings.
The final ranked Tornado is
Alexa Garcia, coming in at sixth at 191 pounds. She is 8-1 taking seven wins by pin.
The Tornado will be back in action Sunday afternoon when they compete at the Mount Olive Duals hosted by the University of Mount Olive.
