Samuel Trueba had a spectacular year for the King University men's golf team, and he can add another program first to his list of accolades. He became the first Tornado to earn PING All-America honors from the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) when they announced their second and third teams.
Trueba was named to the second team, becoming the first Tornado to earn PING All-America honors from the GCAA. Earlier this year, he was the first King men's golfer to earn PING All-Southeast Region recognition. He also garnered first team All-Conference Carolinas with a stroke average of 70.8.
He was the first Tornado to qualify for the NCAA Division II Men's Golf National Championship, where he finished third with a three-round total of one-under 215. That followed a third-place finish at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional where he won a playoff to qualify for the national championship.
Trueba won three tournaments on the season, becoming the first Tornado to win more than one career tournament. He started by winning the King Invitational with a score of two-under 138. Trueba then won back-to-back tournaments, starting by defeating a deep Hurricane Invitational with a score of nine-under 207. He closed the regular season by winning the Tennessee River Rumble with a score of seven-under 209.
He recorded six top 10 finishes, including five times in the top five. He posted his low round of the season, 67, three times. Trueba was selected Conference Carolinas Golfer of the Week three times, on September 29, February 16 and March 2.
