MADRID, Spain/OAXTEPEC, Mexico – Two King University women's wrestlers came back with medals from separate international competitions for Team USA on Saturday.
Sage Mortimer took home gold from the U20 Pan American Championships while
Ana Luciano took home silver from the Grand Prix of Spain.
Mortimer was won of three Americans to take home gold and one of eight to earn a medal in Oaxtepec, Mexico. Wrestling at 50 kilograms, Mortimer went 3-0 on the day with a pair of falls. She pinned Ecuador's Mirian Quinonez Rosado before an 11-0 technical fall win of Shammika Miranda Diaz of Puerto Rico. In the gold medal match, Mortimer pinned Yorlenis Moran Sanchez of Panama.
In Madrid, Luciano was one of nine Americans to come back with a medal, and one of four to earn gold or silver. Wrestling at 68 kilograms, Luciano started with a technical fall victory over Sarah Clossik of Great Britain before a decision over Poland's Natalia Strzalka. However, in the gold medal match, Luciano dropped a decision to France's Pauline Lecarpentier, giving her a silver medal.
