Tornado compete at Senior World Team Trials Challenge Tournament

CORALVILLE, Iowa – The King University women's wrestling team had five individuals compete at the World Team Trials Challenge Tournament. Sage Mortimer had the best finish among Tornado, taking fourth at 50 kilograms.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Mortimer went 2-2 on the weekend, starting with a 10-0 technical fall win over Nina Pham to reach the semifinals.
• However, she fell to eventual champion Alyssa Lampe in the semifinals.
• Mortimer then defeated Nyla Valencia 2-0 in a consolation semifinal but fell to Emily Shilson in the third-place bout.
• Also at 50 kilograms, Danielle Garcia opened with a 10-5 win over Caitlyn Walker.
• However, she fell to Lampe in a quarterfinal and Charlotte Fowler in the consolation bracket.
• Montana DeLawder dropped both of her matches at 59 kilograms, falling to finalist Abigail Nette and Bridgette Duty.
• Ashlynn Ortega defeated Tornado alum Amanda Hendey 6-3 in a quarterfinal but fell to runner-up Emma Bruntil in a semifinal.
• At 68 kilograms, Ana Luciano defeated Dalia Garibay 8-2 in a quarterfinal, but fell to eventual champion Sienna Ramirez 11-4.
• Luciano then fell to third-place finisher Alara Boyd 6-4 in a consolation semifinal.
