Trueba named GCAA PING All-Southeast Region

BRISTOL, Tenn. – Samuel Trueba of the King University men's golf team can add another first to his list of awards. He became the first Tornado to be named Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) PING All-Southeast Region.

Trueba had a spectacular season, becoming the first Tornado to qualify for the NCAA Division II Men's Golf National Championship. He previously was selected first team All-Conference Carolinas and led King with a school record stroke average of 70.8 strokes per round and 20 rounds of par or lower.

At the national championship he finished third with a three-round total of one-under 215. That followed a third-place finish at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional where he won a playoff to qualify for the national championship.

Trueba won three tournaments on the season, becoming the first Tornado to win more than one career tournament. He started by winning the King Invitational with a score of two-under 138. Trueba then won back-to-back tournaments, starting by defeating a deep Hurricane Invitational with a score of nine-under 207. He closed the regular season by winning the Tennessee River Rumble with a score of seven-under 209.

He recorded six top 10 finishes, including five times in the top five. He posted his low round of the season, 67, three times. Trueba was selected Conference Carolinas Golfer of the Week three times, on September 29, February 16 and March 2.
