Trueba finishes third at NCAA National Championship

DEARBORN, Mich. – Samuel Trueba of the King University men's golf team finished third at the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship. He carded a final round of one-under 71 to finish with a tournament total of 215.

HOW IT HAPPENED – THIRD ROUND
  • Trueba got off to a great start with a pair on the first hole before back-to-back birdies.
  • He later birdied the seventh hole, finishing the front nine with a score of three-under 33.
  • On the back nine, he posted a bogey on the 12th hole before four straight pars.
  • The led to a birdie on the 17th hole but posted a double bogey on the 18th to finish the back nine with a score of two-over 38.
  • That gave him a round of one-under 71 and a tournament total of 215.
HOW IT HAPPENED – SECOND ROUND
  • Following a triple bogey on the second hole, Trueba responded with a birdie, before another bogey put him three over through four holes.
  • He birdied the seventh hole and finished the front nine at two-over, 38.
  • On the back nine, he birdied the 12th and 13th holes before another birdie on 16.
  • Trueba posted par on the other six holes to shoot three-under 33 on the back nine.
  • That gave him a second-round score of one-under 71.
HOW IT HAPPENED – FIRST ROUND
  • Trueba started his round with a double bogey and bogey before rolling off four straight pars.
  • He then birdied the seventh and ninth to shoot one-over 37 on the opening nine holes.
  • On the back nine, Trueba started with five straight pars before alternating a pair of birdies and bogeys over the final four holes.
  • He shot even par 36 on the back nine, for an opening round of one-over 73.
FOR THE FOES
  • Keegan Bronnenberg of the University of Indianapolis and Joel Sylven of the University of Missouri – St. Louis finished in a tie for first with a score of two-under 214.
  • Trueba and Nick Westrich of Central Missouri University finished third one stroke back.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Trueba was the first Tornado to qualify for the NCAA Division II Men's Golf National Championship and becomes the first to post a top 10 and top five finish.
  • The third-place finish is the best finish by a Conference Carolinas golfer since 2016 when Limestone University's Griffin Brown finished third.
