GAFFNEY, S.C. – The King University men's volleyball team traveled to Limestone University for their final tune-up before opening Conference Carolinas play next week. The Tornado tried to fight back, but the Saints used a pair of runs late in the third set and early in the fourth set to defeat the Tornado 3-1.
THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
- Limestone used four straight points to open up an early 9-3 advantage before the Tornado went on a run.
- King scored six straight points, evening the score at nine. Suetonius Harris had an ace on the run while JT Deppe and Aaron Milstead teamed up for a block and Chance Hoffman added a kill.
- Another Saint 4-0 spurt gave Limestone a 15-11 before they closed out the set by scoring nine of the final 11 points.
- That run concluded with six straight points, giving Limestone the opening set 25-15.
Second Set
- King grabbed the early lead and gradually extended the advantage. A Deppe kill gave the Tornado a 9-5 lead before the Saints started to chip away.
- Three straight Saint points eventually evened the score at 14 as the teams began to trade points.
- King trialed 19-18 before a Diego Marcano kill and Hoffman ace gave King the lead as the Tornado led 21-19 following the 3-0 spurt.
- A block from Harris and Milstead gave King a chance at set point before a Hoffman kill gave King the 25-23 win.
Third Set
- Following a 3-0 Limestone run, King scored four straight points to take a 6-5 lead. Harris and Marcano started the run with kills before a pair of blocks from Deppe and Milstead ended the spurt.
- The King run continued following a Saint point as three straight Tornado points put King ahead 9-6.
- Limestone came back and evened the score at 11, but King later responded with four straight points to take a 17-14 lead. Harris had a pair of kills on the run.
- However, Limestone came back with seven straight points, and scored 11 of the final 13 points to take the set 25-19.
Fourth Set
- King scored the first point of the fourth set, but Limestone responded with 13 straight points.
- The Tornado tried to comeback, going on a 9-3 run, including spurts of five straight and four straight to pull within 23-17.
- It wasn't enough as the Saints took the set 25-19 and the match 3-2.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Marcano led King with seven kills and 13 digs.
- Kellan Kennedy added seven kills and hit .417. He also added five blocks.
- Hoffman chipped in with eight digs.
- Deppe handed out 24 assists to go along with six blocks and five digs.
FOR THE FOES
- James Chretien led Limestone with 15 kills and 13 digs.
- Albert Warzocha added 13 kills and 14 digs.
- Spence Saint-Eloi and Viet Vils chipped in with 10 kills each.
- Paul Stommel handed out 45 assists and added six digs.
UP NEXT
- King opens Conference Carolinas play at home on Tuesday against rival Lees-McRae College. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
- Limestone hosts Alderson Broaddus University on Saturday.
