King finishes fourth, set seven school records at Conference Carolinas Championships

KINGSPORT, Tenn. – The King University men's swimming team closed the Conference Carolinas Swimming & Diving Championships on a high note, setting pair of school records. The Tornado finished fourth and set seven school records at the four-day meet.

HOW IT HAPPENED – SATURDAY
  • Jan Kuljak set a school record with a 100 yard freestyle time of 46.22 seconds in the preliminaries. He finished fifth in the finals with a time of 46.55 seconds.
  • Dale Bruce earned another All-Conference Carolinas finish, taking third with a 200 yard breaststroke time of 2:06.29.
  • Kessler Dayton finished sixth with a 200 yard breaststroke time of 2:11.70.
  • The 400 yard freestyle relay team of Kuljak, Gideon Bezuidenhout, Haakon Meyer and Bruce set a school record with a third-place time of 3:07.81.
HOW IT HAPPENED – FRIDAY
  • Jan Kuljak won the conference championship in the 200 yard freestyle. He finished more than one second ahead of second place with a time of 1:42.30.
  • That marks the first conference title for Kuljak in his career.
  • Dale Bruce set the school record in the 100 yard butterfly, finishing third in a time of 50.88 seconds.
  • The 400 yard medley relay team of Sam Osowiecki, Kessler Dayton, Bruce and Kuljak came in third, setting a school record with a time of 3:30.26.
HOW IT HAPPENED – THURSDAY
  • Jan Kuljak finished third in the 500 yard freestyle with a finals time of 4:37.70.
  • King had two of the top three finishers in the 200 yard individual medley.
  • Dale Bruce led the way with a runner-up finish, touching the wall in 1:52.73.
  • Gideon Bezuidenhout wasn't far behind, taking third with a time of 1:54.93.
  • The 200 yard freestyle relay team of Luke Hunt, Bruce, Haakon Meyer and Kuljak set a new school record, taking third in a time of 1:25.39.
HOW IT HAPPENED – WEDNESDAY
  • Jan Kuljak set a school record in the 200 yard freestyle and posted an NCAA B cut with a time of 1:39.67 to start the 800 yard freestyle relay.
  • That relay team of Kuljak, Kessler Dayton, Osowiecki and Gideon Bezuidenhout set a school record with a time of 6:56.12 to finish second.
  • Sam Osowiecki came in fifth in the 1000 yard freestyle with a personal record time of 10:05.60.
  • Kas McIntire wasn't far behind, taking sixth in 10:07.12.
