BRISTOL, Tenn. – Three members of the King University women's soccer team, and three members of the King University men's soccer team have been selected to the College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-District teams.
Representing the women's team is
Maggie Danroth,
Erin Peters and
Veronica Roach, while the men's team is represented by
Joshua Bessinger,
Riley Moore and
Marcell Szekeres.
Danroth, a senior from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, started all 14 matches that she played this season, taking a pair of shots on goal and playing over 1,000 minutes on the season. She is majoring in Criminal Justice, with a minor in Security and Intelligence, and has a GPA of 3.84.
A senior from Humble, Texas, Peters started 16 matches this season, with one shot on goal. She played the full 90 minutes in nine matches. The Biology major has a perfect 4.00 GPA.
Roach, a junior from Pottstown, Penn., played in 16 matches for the Tornado, with 15 starts. She scored in back-to-back matches, finding the net on September 7 at Southern Wesleyan University before netting the match-winner three days later in a triumph over Francis Marion University. Majoring in Political Science and History, Roach has a GPA of 3.77. She has been named Academic All-Conference and is a four-time member of the Dean's List.
Bessinger played in 16 matches this season, starting 11. The sophomore from Havelock, N.C. recorded an assist in a 3-0 win over Erskine on September 13 and also had three shots on goal during the season. He is majoring in Sports management, where he has a GPA of 3.79. He has been named to the Provost's List twice.
Moore appeared in 15 matches, with eight starts. The junior from Dublin, Va., had seven shots on the season, three of which were on goal. A double major in Finance and Economics, Moore has a GPA of 3.63.
Szekeres, a sophomore from Hungary, played in 16 matches, with 11 starts. He notched a pair of assists, with his first coming in a 2-0 win over Emory & Henry College on September 3. He earned another on September 21 against Salem. A Sports Management major, Szekeres carries a 3.97 GPA.
The 2022 Academic All-District Men's and Women's Soccer Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA — for each gender.
Student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve, playing in at least 50 percent of the team's games and have at least at 3.50 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale.
Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early December.
