BRISTOL, Tenn. – For the second straight month a King University women's wrestler has been selected National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Southeast Region Wrestler of the Month.
Ana Luciano won her second tournament of the season, taking home honors for December.
Luciano won the North Central Open with four wins, including three against ranked foes. The top-ranked wrestler at 136 pounds proved that at the North Central Open, starting with a 1:21 pin over eighth-ranked Blanche Kemy Makem of Augsburg University in the opening round. Following a 15-5 technical fall victory over Lindenwood University's Athena Wilden, she defeated fifth-ranked Autumn Flanigan of Augsburg on a 14-2 technical fall to reach the final. In the final, Luciano earned an 8-5 win over fourth-ranked Sky Realin of McKendree University. Luciano is 10-0 on the season with five pins and two tournament titles.
Luciano becomes the second Tornado in as many months to be selected NWCA Southeast Region Wrestler of the Month, joining
Sage Mortimer who earned the distinction in November.
She is now eligible for NWCA National Wrestler of the Month which will be announced on Tuesday.
The Tornado will be in action on Thursday and Friday at the NWCA National Duals in Louisville, Ky.
