BRISTOL, Tenn. – King University women's wrestler Ashlyn Ortega departed this week for Belgrade, Serbia where she will compete in the U23 World Championships.
Ortega will wrestle at 65 kilograms as competition starts on Thursday with the qualification rounds in the morning followed by the semifinals in the afternoon. Action starts at 10:30 a.m. local time, 5:30 a.m. (ET) on Thursday. The bracket then concludes on Friday with the repechage in the morning and medal matches in the evening. Friday's morning session starts at 10:30 a.m. local with the second session starting at 6:00 p.m. local, 1:00 p.m. (ET).
Ortega is a three-time All-American for the Tornado, wrestling at 143 pounds. Last season she finished runner-up at the NCWW National Championships. She as was 2016 Cadet World team member and won the 2022 U23 Nationals. In May she topped McKendree University's Alara Boyd to earn her spot on her second career age-group World team.
Earlier this year, Ortega competed at the U.S. Olympic Trials, and this fall she wrestled at the Senior World Team Trials.
