ROCHESTER, Minn. – The King University women's wrestling team opened the season with a solid performance at the U23 World Team Trials. Allison Petix led the way with a third place finish, and Tornado alum Forrest Molinari took gold.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- At 48 kilograms, Aleeah Gould started with a pair of wins to reach the semifinals. She pinned Anna Delony in 1:27 and took a narrow 3-2 decision over Kateri Rowell in the quarterfinals.
- However, she fell to Cody Pfau in the semifinals, dropping her to the consolation bracket where she pinned Mariah Lomas in 40 seconds to reach the third place bout.
- However, Gould fell to Charlotte Fowler in the third place bout, giving her a fourth place finish.
- Petix started her day at 58 kilograms with a 5-4 win over Erika Mihalca to reach the semifinals. However, Petix fell to Megan Black in the semifinals, dropping her to the consolation bracket.
- In the semifinals of the consolation bracket, Petix took an 11-1 technical fall victory over Angeles Cabada, setting up a remach with Mihalca for bronze.
- Petix took a 10-0 technical fall victory over Mihalca, giving her the bronze medal.
- Nicole Joseph reached the semifinals at 60 kilograms with a win by forfeit and injury default in 5:39. She fell to Teshya Alo in the semifinals before falling to Emma Bruntil in the consolation semifinals.
- King alum Molinari won her first three matches of the day to reach the best-of-three finals against Niauni Hill.
- Molinari took the first bout on a technical fall 11-0 and the second bout 2-1, winning the gold medal.
- Hanna Grisewood, another alum finished 1-2 on the day.
