Cook qualifies for NCAA Men's Cross Country Championship

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Tanner Cook led the King University at the NCAA Southeast Regional, and qualified for the NCAA National Championship. The Tornado didn't have a team score, and Cook led the way with a sixth place finish.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Cook set 10k personal record with a time of 30:41.05 to finish sixth. Since he was one of the top three finishers not on a qualifying team, qualifying him for the national meet in two weeks.
  • James Russell Ballowe also set a personal record, finishing 34th with a time of 32:12.46. His previous fastest 10k time of 35:09.76 came in 2014.
  • Setting another personal record was Charles Ramos who finished in 32:45.21, lowering his previous time of 34:46.16.
  • Tyler Edwards rounded out the squad with a personal record time of 34.29.57.

FOR THE FOES

  • University of Mount Olive finished first with Mars Hill University taking third and Queens University taking third.
  • Adam Craig of Mount Olive won the individual title of 29:49.03.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • King qualified as a team for the NCAA Men's Cross Country Championships in 2012 and 2013, and Cook becomes the first Tornado to qualify since 2013.

UP NEXT

  • Cook will now compete in the NCAA Division II Men's Cross Country National Championships on November 19 at the Abbey Course in St. Leo, Fla.
