Box Score 2 ARLINGTON, Va. – The King University men's volleyball team closed their spring break in impressive fashion, taking a pair of sweeps at the Marymount University triangular. The Tornado started with a sweep of the hosts 26-24, 25-19, 25-20 and followed it with a win over Bluefield College 25-12, 25-13, 25-8.
King trailed 22-20 late in the first set against Marymount, but found a way to comeback. The Tornado (10-7) staved off one set point, and scored the final three points of the frame, taking the 26-24 victory. King grabbed and early 7-4 lead in the second set before holding a 21-17 advantage when the Saints (9-15) called for timeout. Nevertheless, King took the set 25-19. In the third set, King gained a 13-8 advantage before stretching their lead to 21-14 later in the set. The Tornado then took the 3-0 win with a 25-20 victory in the final set.
In the nightcap, King and Bluefield (3-12) went back-and-forth in the early going until King went on a 9-3 run, turning a 9-6 lead into a commanding 18-9 advantage. The Tornado ultimately took the set 25-12. It was more of the same in the second set as King started the frame on a 6-2 run before using a 7-4 spurt to take an 18-8 lead en route to the 25-13 victory. The Tornado opened the third set on an 8-2 run and followed it with an 8-3 spurt, opening up a 16-5 advantage. King closed the match on an 11-3 run, taking the set 25-8 and the match 3-0.
King will be in action again on Wednesday when they host North Greenville University in a Conference Carolinas tilt. First serve from the Student Center Complex is slated for 7:00 p.m.
