HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Coming into the final round of the Hilton Head Lakes Invitational, the King University women's team was in second place, but within striking range of the leaders. The Tornado couldn't catch UNC Pembroke, finishing second after shooting 308 in the final round and 615 for the tournament. However, Elizabeth Swallow made up three strokes and won the tournament outright on the fourth playoff hole.
Swallow followed her first round of even-par 72 with a one-over 73 in the tournament's final round to finish in the top spot with Laura Bird of UNC Pembroke. The duo then went to playoff holes, and Swallow toped Bird on the fourth hole to take the outright victory. The win marks the first of the year for the junior and fifth of her career.
Cortnee Young followed with a second round of 79, finishing 15th with a tournament total of 157. Nicola Robertson and Anna Walker both finished 22nd with tournament scores of 158. Robertson shot 81-77 while Walker carded 79 in each round. Samantha Taylor rounded out the team with a tournament total of 160 after shooting 82 in the second round.
UNC Pembroke won the tournament with a score of 606 while King finished second at 615. Wingate University was third at 620 while the University of Mount Olive took third with a score of 624.
King will be in action again at the Wingate Lady Bulldogs Invitational on March 23-24. The tournament will be played at Olde Sycamore Golf Plantation in Charlotte, N.C.
