WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The King College men's tennis team was a 9-0 winner Sunday at Winston-Salem State (N.C.) University, however the Lady Tornado suffered a narrow 5-4 defeat.
The women's match came down to No. 4 singles where the home team's Dominique Lindsay defeated Karissa King (Rockwood, Tenn.) 0-6, 6-4 (11-9).
The Lady Tornado had to rally after falling behind 2-1 in doubles. The lone King victory came from Sarah Anderson (Bristol, Tenn.) and Crystal Harwell (Nashville, Tenn.) at No. 3 with a 8-5 score.
Harwell added a singles' win, 6-1 and 6-2. Brittany Freund (Bluefield, W.Va.) and Nerece Stoltz (Witbank, South Africa) added singles' victories at No. 5 and No. 3, respectively.
In the men's match King only lost six games in doubles before sweeping singles.
The Tornado went to 7-2 while the Lady Tornado's record stands at 5-4.
King welcomes Bridgewater (Va.) College for a 3 p.m. match on Wednesday.
