Senior Day Double Wins for Final Conference Games

The Tornado won two games today over Shorter on Senior Day for their final Conference Regular Season Doubleheader

Bristol, Tenn. The King University Softball team finishes out its final Conference Carolinas regular-season games today with two wins over Shorter on Senior Day for the Tornado. King came out strong in game one, able to hold Shorter to a clean no runs scored while scoring two, winning 2-0. In the second game, King let up one run but was able to get the bats going to win 4-1.

Game One:

In the first game, King and Shorter both started off slow, with the pitchers stealing the star of the show, only letting one hit for each team through three innings. King would put the only runs on the board the whole game in the fourth inning, scoring two runs. Giana Winge scored first off a strong hit double from Ella Richey that hit the top of the fence. Richey would score herself next, from another double, this one hit by Bunsic, the very next at bat. King would win game one 2-0 while Kaylee Meeks only let up three hits and earned a clean sheet.

On the mound for King was Meeks, crossing 100 strikeouts in a single season with five today able to cross that amazing threshold. Meeks was able to cause 12 fly outs while pitching today, which led to King winning this game with easy outs in the air.

Batting:
Winge had two hits and one run.
Richey got two hits, both doubles, and one RBI.
Carlie Sheets got one hit.
Bunsic got one hit, which was a double, and one RBI.

Game Two:

In the second game, it was a similar tale with a strong pitching battle for both teams. King, though, put the first run on the board for them in the second inning with a run scoring for Richey off a sacrifice fly out by Aubrey King. The next two innings saw no team get across home plate until the fifth inning, where Shorter scored their first run of the two games in the top, tying the score 1-1.

The bottom of the fifth inning saw King get the runs going with Savannah Luper setting a perfectly placed bunt to run Katie Ryan off of a bad throw. This would help King take the lead back 2-1. The Tornado kept the pressure up in the sixth inning, with two runs scoring with Olesia Walch and Sophia Waters both scoring. King would win the game 4-1 for their final regular-season conference victory.

The pitching staff on the mound today for King was Luper and Riley Lamb, combining for four strikeouts and seven fly outs to gain the win today, while only letting up one walk for both of them.

Batting:
Grace Shary had a day with three hits in three at-bats.
Richey had two hits, one for a double and the other a triple, with a run scoring.
Ryan had one hit, which was a double for an RBI, and had one run.
Aubrey King had one hit, good for two RBIs.
Bunsic and Staley Vaught each had one hit.

Up Next: The Tornado will stay home for the final time this year with a home doubleheader against Mars Hill on Monday, April 20th at 2:00 and 4:00 pm.
