Double Header Double the Wins: King Sweeps Against Emmanuel

The Tornado swept the Lions in a doubleheader at home

Bristol, Tenn. The King University Softball team played a doubleheader at home, where they took care of business, winning both games handily over Emmanuel. The first game saw a close battle, but King prevailed 5-2, and in the second game, King dominated both on defense and on offense, winning 8-0 in the fifth inning.

Game One:

In the first game, King went up early with a strong first inning, scoring five runs. Katie Ryan led the Tornado by scoring the first run from Savana Luper's double to center field. Luper would score next with bases loaded from a single by Ella Richey. Yuleesa Kennedy was able to reach home from a fielder's choice hit by Giana Winge. Carlie Sheets made it home on a throw to second base as Winge stole second. Winge would score for the final run for King in the first inning off a single from Aubrey King.

King would not be able to replicate their first inning hitting, but held strong through the next six innings, only letting up two runs by Emmanuel. The first run came in the second inning, and the second run came in the third inning, making the final score 5-2.

On the mound for King were Kylee Horsley and Riley Lamb with a one-two duo to get it done for King. Horsley pitched the first three innings, throwing three strikeouts, while Lamb finished the game with four innings, not giving up any runs.

Batting:
Ryan had two hits and one run.
Richey had two hits and one RBI.
Luper and Winge both hit the trifecta of one run, a hit, and an RBI. Luper's hit would be a double.

Game Two:

In the second game, King started just like the first game, scoring early in the first inning. Ryan again crossed home first with a hit by Richey. With the bases loaded, Aviah Bunsic came up to the bat and hit a perfect single down the left field line to score both Carlie Sheets and Luper. They took the lead 3-0 after the first but won't score again till the fifth.

King got the bats going in the fifth with the first two runs coming from Imari Golden's double to center field, with Bunsic and Winge both scoring. Golden would be the next run to score off of a sacrifice fly out to right field from Luper. Kennedy came up to bat with a full count and two outs on the board, hit a beautiful single up the middle to score both Ryan and Staley Vaught to seal the game away, winning it in the fifth inning 8-0.

The solo pitcher on the mound for King in the second game was Sophia Waters, with a clean sheet, pitching five innings with three strikeouts and three hits allowed to get the win.

Batting:
Ryan had a perfect bat with three hits and two runs in three at-bats.
Luper came in strong with two hits, one run, and an RBI.
Bunsic got the bat going with two hits, two RBIs, and one run, with one hit being a double.
