BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University baseball team split their Conference Carolinas doubleheader Friday, taking the first game 6-5 from Chowan before falling 7-3 in the second game of the day.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
- Nathan Borchardt hit a one-out single in the first, setting up Medford for his first home run of the day, putting King in front early, 2-0.
- The Hawks responded with a couple of runs in the second, tying the score at two before the Tornado took another lead in the third.
- Truman Roper led off the inning with a walk, advancing to second on a wild pitch before a Borchardt single put runners on the corners.
- Joe Amunutegui III then picked up an RBI, hitting a sacrifice fly to make it a 3-2 Tornado lead.
- Amunategui III was responsible for the fourth run of the game as well, as he grounded out in the sixth, with a throwing error allowing Medford to score after he led off with a double to left field.
- King added another insurance run in the eighth, as Roper singled to left field, scoring Ruiz to give the Tornado a 5-2 lead.
- Both teams scored in the eighth, with Medford starting the Tornado eighth with a solo home run, giving them a 6-3 lead.
- Chowan got a pair of runs in the ninth, but stranded the game-tying run at second base as Cole Pletcher got a game-ending strikeout.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
- Once again, the Tornado took an early lead, as in the second inning Patrick Corley was hit by a pitch, before stealing second and scoring when Roper singled to center field to put King in front 1-0.
- After the Hawks scored in the top of the third, the Tornado responded with a pair of runs in their half of the third.
- After Starrs drew a two-out walk, Josh Nuno was hit by a pitch, before Daniel Hicks singled, allowing Starrs to score and advancing Nuno to third.
- Ruiz then stepped up to the plate and singled up the middle, scoring Nuno and giving the Tornado a 3-1 lead.
- Neither team scored until the seventh, when Chowan scored six runs before holding King scoreless in the bottom to take the 7-3 win.
