BRISTOL, Tenn. - The Conference Carolinas announced that King wrestlers
Clare Booe and
Trent Mahoney had earned the wrestler of the week awards on Tuesday afternoon. It is the first weekly award for both Booe and Mahoney
Booe, a freshman from Tarpon Springs, Florida, went 4-0 at the Bobcat Open to win the championship at 117 pounds. All four of her wins came via pin, with three coming in the first 90 seconds. She started with a 17-second pin over Paige Altizer of Bluefield State before consecutive pins over Sacred Heart opponents. She won the title with a 4:37 pin of teammate MelanieMendoza.
Mahoney, a senior from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, went 6-0 last week with a pair of Conference Carolinas wins and four wins at the Cumberland Open to take home the title at 157 pounds. He started with pins of conference foes, Jack Ponder of Shorter and Julian Smith of Lincoln Memorial. he then posted two wins by pin and another by technical fall at the Cumberland Open as he won the title bout via pin over Damion Jones of Huntingdon in 2:35.
Both the women's and men's wrestling teams will travel to Emory & Henry tonight for duel meets.
