Tornado fall to Tusculum in mid-week doubleheader

GREENVILLE, Tenn. – The King University softball team fell to Tusculum in both games on Wednesday afternoon.
 
THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Tusculum 6 – King 4 | Tusculum 6 – King 1
LOCATION: Red Edmonds Field; Greenville, Tenn.
RECORDS: Tusculum 17-1 | King 6-6
 
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE

  • Jessica Campbell led off with a triple to center field. She scored on a passed ball during the next batter to put King on the board early.
  • Tusculum tied the game on a sacrifice fly to left field in the bottom of the second inning. In the bottom of the third, Tusculum added four runs on five hits bringing the score to 5-1.
  • The Pioneers added their final run in the bottom of the fifth inning on a two-out single to the short stop.
  • King attempted a comeback in the seventh inning. Campbell hit her second triple of the game and was able to score on an error from the Pioneers. Rachel Jardim hit a two-out, two-run double, scoring both Tori Ryan and Alena Demakas, but King was unable to complete the comeback, falling 6-4.
 
KING HIGHLIGHTS – GAME ONE  
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO
  • Tusculum scored first in the bottom of the first inning with runs scoring on a double and a wild pitch.
  • King scored their only run on a Grace Shary sacrifice fly and Aviah Bunsic was able to cross the plate.
  • The Pioneers added two more runs I the bottom of the third inning on three hits. A sacrifice bunt allowed Tusculum to add a run in the fifth inning before a triple in the sixth inning scored their sixth run.
 
KING HIGHLIGHTS – GAME TWO
  • Six Tornado recorded a hit with Campbell and Jardim each hitting a double.
  • Aviah Bunsic scored the only run.
