BRISTOL, Tenn. – The fourth-ranked King University women's wrestling team earned a handful of inaugural South Atlantic Conference Carolinas All-Conference honors Friday afternoon, including Co-Wrestler of the Year
Samara Chavez, Freshman of the Year
Clare Booe and Coach of the Year Gracie Figueroa.
Chavez, who also earned first team honors, has an 18-1 overall record, and hasn't lost a match since Dec. 6. She has a total of seven wins via pin on the season, including three consecutive pins heading into the NCWWC Regional Tournament this weekend.
Booe, who was also named first team all-conference, is 27-2 this season, and hasn't lost a match since Nov. 9. She has three wins this season over ranked opponents, and six of her last seven wins have been via pin.
Figueroa guided the Tornado to the first-ever South Atlantic Conference Carolinas title, sweeping their conference duals en route to an overall record of 21-3.
Avery Kibelbek earned first team honors, compiling a 25-5 record, including winning her final five matches of the regular season. At the NWCA National Duals, she won a 10-2 decision over then-no. 6 Brianne Graves of North Central, and was undefeated this season in conference dual meets.
At 110 pounds,
Dianna Holmes was named second team all-conference after going 15-2 in the regular season, including a pair of wins over ranked opponents. She also has seven wins via tech fall, and two via pin.
Montana DeLawder earned first team honors at 124 pounds, posting a 31-4 overall record and earning her 100th career win earlier this season. She enters the regional tournament having won nine straight matches, including four wins via pin.
At 131 pounds,
Anna DiCugno earned first team honors, posting a 31-9 record on the season. Heading into the regional tournament, she has won seven of her last eight matches, including four wins via fall.
Aine Drury earned her first all-conference honors of her career at 145 pounds, being named first team all-conference. Drury is 15-1 on the season, with six wins coming via fall.
Rounding out the all-conference honors is
Chey Bowman, who is 19-1 on the season and hasn't lost since Jan. 10. Of her 19 wins, 14 of them have been via fall, including four of her last five wins.
The Tornado will compete this weekend at the NCWWC Regional Championships, hosted Saturday by Emmanuel. Wrestlers who place in the top four will earn a berth to the NCWWC National Championships March 7-8.
