Five home runs push King over Mars Hill in doubleheader

MARS HILL, N.C. – The King University softball team earned a pair of wins against Mars Hill on Friday afternoon.
 
THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: King 10 – Mars Hill 8 | King 8 – Mars Hill 0
LOCATION: Ponder Field; Mars Hill, N.C.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE
  • King got on the board in the first inning. Tori Ryan singled through the left side, pushing Alena Demakas and Jessica Campbell home.
  • Rachel Jardim hit a single to left field that allowed Ryan to score to put King up 3-0.
  • Demakas scored again in the second as Aviah Bunsic hit another single on the left field side. Bunsic was then batted in by a Ryan single to right field.
  • Shaina Addair homered to open the sixth inning. Bunsic singled to left field allowing Campbell and Staley Vaught to score to give the Tornado the 8-0 advantage.
  • Mars Hill got on the board in the bottom of the sixth with five runs on three hits.
  • Addair hit a second home run in the top of the seventh inning, increasing King's total to 10.
  • Mars Hill attempted to comeback in the bottom of the seventh, but scored three runs, giving King the 10-8 win.
 
KING HIGHLIGHTS – GAME ONE
  • Shaina Addair went 3 for 4 with two home runs and three RBIs. Tori Ryan also went 3 for 4 with a hit and an RBI.
  • Aviah Bunsic went 2 of 3, driving in three while scoring once.
  • Savana Luper earned her second win going 6.0 innings allowing just 4 hits and striking out 7 batters.
  • In total King had 14 hits, 10 runs and five stolen bases in the first game.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO
  • King once again scored first and early as Ryan hit a home run to left field driving in Demakas and herself.
  • Bradlie Warner singled to the third baseman to open the third inning before J. Campbell hit a home run in the following at bat. Jardim hit a grand slam later in the inning, to give King the 8-0 advantage.
  • Neither team would score for the remainder of the game as the game finished after the fifth inning.
 
KING HIGHLIGHTS – GAME TWO
  • Tori Ryan, Jessica Campbell, and Rachel Jardim all went the yard once, combining for the 8 RBIs of the game.
  • Jardim had two hits including her grand slam in the third inning.
  • Kylee Horsley got her second win of the season going a complete five innings allowing just two hits and no runs.
