Chattanooga, Tenn. – The King University men's wrestling team kicked off its 2025-26 campaign with a challenging road test against perennial powerhouse Chattanooga. While the final score favored the Mocs 45-4, the Tornado showed flashes of promise and toughness that will serve them well as the season unfolds.

King's highlight came at

David Bertrand delivered a commanding performance, earning a
major decision (14-5) over Logan Webster. Bertrand's aggressive pace and technical control gave King its first team points of the season and showcased the kind of leadership the Tornado will rely on in the months ahead.
 Battling Through the Lineup
Despite facing a deep and experienced Chattanooga squad, several King wrestlers held their own in competitive bouts:
- Gilbert Balbuena (133) pushed Ethan Lipsey to the limit in a 9-5 decision, showing resilience and late-match energy.
- Nathan Coley (285) kept things close in a 6-3 decision, demonstrating poise against a physical opponent.
- Elijah Brown (149) and Luke Justice (184) both fought through technical falls, gaining valuable mat time and experience.
Building Momentum
While the scoreboard may not reflect it, the Tornado gained critical insights and mat exposure against a top-tier opponent. With a roster featuring both seasoned returners and emerging talent, King is poised to sharpen its skills and build momentum heading into the heart of the season.
