King beats Bluefield State

WISE, Va. – The King University women's volleyball team rallied after dropping the first set on Friday, topping Bluefield State 3-1 in their final game of the Cavalier Classic, hosted by UVA Wise. Zephanie Snyder and Capri Johnson led the Tornado attack, with Snyder finishing with 13 kills on the afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
  • After scoring the first three points, Bluefield State eventually worked their way to a 11-4 lead after scoring seven straight points.
  • The Tornado scored three straight, with Snyder picking up a kill before the Big Blue lead reached 14-7.
  • King went on a 9-1 scoring run late that saw them take a 20-18 lead, with Chloe Clayton adding three aces and a kill during the stretch.
  • Bluefield State then took the lead 23-22, eventually winning the set 25-22.
Second Set
  • The Tornado came out hot, scoring the first four points, with a solo block by Clayton and a kill by Bailey Fersner.
  • Despite the Big Blue rallying to tie the set on multiple occasions, King led the entire way, including a 3-0 stretch where the lead reached 12-8, forcing Bluefield State to call timeout.
  • King later scored seven in a row, with Clayton adding three more aces to stretch the lead to 20-13.
  • Bluefield State rallied to within 23-17, but the Tornado took the final two points to even the match at one.
Third Set
  • The Big Blue kept the score close early, staying within 5-4 before King scored eight of the next 10 points, taking a 13-7 lead.
  • The lead reached 21-8 after a 8-0 scoring run, where Snyder had three kills.
  • The Big Blue pulled to within 24-13, but Riley Nelson ended the set with a kill, putting the Tornado in front 2-1.
Fourth Set
  • The Tornado started the set by taking a 10-2 lead, with Amaya Hall picking up three aces and a handful of assists early in the set.
  • After Bluefield State got to within 14-8, King scored five straight points, two of which were Snyder kills to take a 19-8 lead.
  • Three kills by Gracia Love and a Bluefield State attack error put King in front 23-10, with the Big Blue staying alive at 24-13 before a setting error ended the match, with King winning 3-1.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Snyder led the Tornado with 13 kills, while Johnson finished with 11.
  • Clayton led all players with six aces, while Kylie Love had 29 assists.
FOR THE FOES
  • Jannice Lynch led all players with 13 kills, along with two blocks and 11 digs.
  • Imani Stokes had nine blocks on the afternoon.
