MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The King University baseball team took the first game of the day, 9-8 at Chowan University, but fell in game two, salvaging a doubleheader split.

SERIES HIGHLIGHTS
GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
- The Tornado got started right away, scoring a run in the top of the first when Misael Garcia singled through the left side, scoring Truman Roper.
- The Hawks then scored three in the bottom of the first to take a 3-1 lead.
- King responded with three runs of their own in the second, with Roper doubling to score Patrick Corley, while Starrs picked up an RBI after being hit by a pitch.
- Andrew Bryant then drew a bases loaded walk, scoring Roper and putting King in front, 4-3.
- Chowan scored twice in the bottom of the inning, taking a 5-4 lead.
- The Tornado added three more in the third, with Chad Evans scoring on a wild pitch, Corley scoring on a Borchardt single and Huffman scoring when Starrs reached base on a fielding error, making the score 7-5 in favor of King.
- Borchardt and Starrs hit consecutive solo home runs in the fifth, stretching the lead to 9-5.
- After the Hawks scored in the seventh, they added two more in the bottom of the ninth, pulling to within 9-8.
- Chowan had the game-winning run at second with two outs, but Corbin Dickenson induced a game-ending popout to first base.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
- King scored the first five runs of the game, with Starrs scoring in the first on a wild pitch, before Richardson hit a second inning home run, scoring Conner Hyatt to make the score 3-0 King.
- The Tornado added a pair more in the third, with Borchardt scoring on a wild pitch, while Starrs scored on a throw to extend the lead to 5-0.
- Chowan then scored 13 runs over the next three innings, taking a 13-5 lead after the fifth.
- King scored three in the seventh, with Misael Garcia hitting a RBI groundout, while Richardson hit his second of the game, scoring Nick Valentin to pull King to within 13-8, but that was as close as they would get.
