BRISTOL, Tenn. –
Trent Mahoney of the King University men's wrestling team has been named the Conference Carolinas men's wrestler of the week after a week where he went 2-0, including a win over the #1 ranked wrestler in the country.
Mahoney, a redshirt junior from Baton Rouge, La., won both of his matches last week, starting Thursday when he pinned Nicholas Krauss of Lincoln Memorial University in just 35 seconds. Friday night at #2 Lander, he pinned David Hunsberger, who was ranked #1 in the country in 2:32.
This is Mahoney's first weekly award of the season, and the second such award of his career.
The Tornado will compete Sunday at the inaugural Conference Carolinas men's wrestling championships, hosted by UNC Pembroke. King will face the host UNC Pembroke at 11 a.m. in the semifinals, before facing either Lander University or Newberry College.
